Check In. Nobody works alone.

How it works

Start a shift on your phone: your name, the site, how often you want to check in (15 minutes to two hours), and who to call. A countdown runs. Press the green button before it hits zero and it resets. That's the whole job.

Miss one and the app takes it from there — an alarm and a text, then a real phone call asking you to press 1, and only if that fails does it phone your supervisor, with the site, your last check-in and a map link. It keeps going until a person says they've reached you. Nobody watches a board.

Two security levels

Low. One tap on the green button. For a quiet site where the risk is a fall or a medical event, not another person.

High. You set a personal code at the start of the shift and key it in at every check-in. Three wrong codes count as a miss. You also set a duress code: it looks like a normal OK on your phone and calls your supervisor straight away.

The loop

Every shift gets a six-character code on the worker's screen. The foreman, the office, a mate on the next site, your partner at home — anyone who opens Check In and enters the code is in the loop: they're told the moment a check-in is missed, they see where you were last, and they can mark it sorted when they've reached you. Add as many as you want.

The red button

One tap dials 911 on your own phone and, at the same moment, texts everyone in the loop that an ambulance has been called — your position on a map, the site address, the gate code and access notes, the hazards, your name and company. Your screen shows the same card in big type so you can read it to the dispatcher instead of trying to remember it.

WorkSafeBC OHS Regulation ss. 4.20.1–4.23: an employer must have a written procedure for checking the well-being of a worker working alone or in isolation, at intervals set out in the procedure, and must keep a record. Check In is that procedure and that record. It needs the phone to have signal or data; it is not an emergency beacon, and for a life-threatening emergency you call 911 first.
